With the advancement of technology over the years, video recorders have become smaller and smaller yet are more capable than their predecessors. Take for example these latest gadgets from Sony – the HDR-CX520V and HDR-CX500V camcorders.

These two new camcorders combine the best in digital imaging technology, according to Kelly Davis – director of the camcorder business for Sony electronics. Both models are able to record 1920×1080 Full HD video and up to 12-megapixel still images. All video recorded will be automatically converted to 60 progressive frames per second when connected to a compatible HD TV.

The Optical SteadyShot with Active Mode features a moveable lens element to shift with greater range of motion during camera shake. Along with that, you get 3-Way Shake Cancelling that will help lessen hand shake in three directions – vertical and horizontal shake that relies on optical image stabilization while the third uses electronic image stabilization to facilitate corrections for lateral-roll shake.

Now inside, you will find the powerful BIONZ imaging processor with a Face Touch function so users can choose a person to be prioritized by the camcorder by simply touching a detected face on the screen. When Face Touch is activated, the Smile Shutter feature also activates in response to the smiles of the selected person. Sony also eliminates the need for a PC and allows for simple DVD creation with the optional DVDirect Express (VRD-P1) DVD writer.

Other powerful features include a zoom microphone with Dolby 5.1-channel surround sound and an instant power-on feature when the LCD is opened, letting you capture the moment without delay. As for the price and availability, both camcorders are set to drop in September with the 64GB HDR-CX520V retailing for around $1,300 and $1,100 for the 32GB HDR-CX500V.
