Monkeys according to scientists are where mankind descended from. Thus explain why tests for exploratory research such as space flight and such are done on monkeys too. For us here on the land, we can have our personal monkey to test out the sun for us.

Though not a real monkey, this gadget would try out how much dangerous the sun’s rays are. From best for some sun exposure to best for just letting your solar powered devices bask out in the sun. This UV Monkey works out by well, letting it out in the sun. Its photosensitive center will gauge how much UV radiation is present. The darker the center is, the higher the UV concentration. The surrounding blocks of the UV Monkey are the indicators to easily compare on what level the radiation is from 1-11.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), here is the UV Index Scale:

*A UV Index reading of 2 or less means low danger from the sun’s UV rays for the average person.

*A UV Index reading of 3 to 5 means moderate risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure.

*A UV Index reading of 6 to 7 means high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Apply a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15. Wear a wide-brim hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes.

*A UV Index reading of 8 to 10 means very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Minimize sun exposure during midday hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Protect yourself by liberally applying a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Wear protective clothing and sunglasses to protect the eyes.

*A UV Index reading of 11 or higher means extreme risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Try to avoid sun exposure during midday hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 liberally every 2 hours.

So be sure to know when it is safe to be out in the sun with UV Monkey.
