This slim computer was first introduced during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2010 at Las Vegas last January 7, 2010. It wowed the visitors as LG showcased a flagship model this year for their thin and light category. This notebook has the looks, the appeal, and performance to entice prospective buyers to swipe their credit cards into getting a new computer.
The X300 has a distinct chiclet type keyboard and a sleek white body that might make you compare this to a MacBook Air. While no one can ignore the similarity in design, the inside is pure PC. This computer only weighs very light at 970 grams and ultra thin at 17.5mm! Windows 7 Home Premium comes preinstalled along with additional software that LG has added to the computer. The display is 11.6″ wide and has eschewed the bezel to maximize the viewing area much like a borderless display. To match the elegant screen is the wide touch pad that is seamlessly incorporated with the palm rest.
A 2GB Intel Z500 (Menlow) processor runs all the applications paired with a 2GB RAM. A 128GB SSD storage has been chosen to limit power consumption and maximize portability. The fan-less design eliminates noise, keeps the thin profile of the notebook, and reduces the power consumption. There are two 2-cell batteries that are included in each purchase with each giving a manufacturer rated running time of 3.5 hours which total to 7 hours on both batteries. While a total of 7 hours seems to be the standard for ultraportables, bringing two batteries is just inconvenient and switching between them is such a hassle.
There is an embedded 3G modem chipset to allow users to get online via EDGE or HSDPA when available.
Watch for the X300 since LG promised to let this baby loose in mid March 2010.

MSI was one of the most successful computer manufacturers that cashed in on the netbook craze primarily with its Wind Netbook which offered desktop like computing in a small package. Now, consumers tend to prefer thin and light laptops which have the same lightweight characteristic of a netbook but with more power and bigger screens and that is what X-Slim Ultrathin Series of MSI is for. The release of this second generation X-Slim ultathin laptop named X430 is a major breakthrough as it is the industry’s slimmest 14″ laptop and lightest at only 1.5kg with battery included.
The X-Slim X430 has an AMD Athlon Neo X2 dual core processor for better multitasking performance but with lower power consumption than traditional processors. The 14″ screen has a contrast ratio of 16:9 which optimized for watching movies and videos and thanks to ATI’s PowerPlay feature, it can play Blu-ray videos with ease using an optional external Blu-ray drive. Energy efficiency is one of this laptop’s best front with an efficient processor, LED backlighting, and with MSI’s ECO Engine. ECO Engine is MSI’s own power management feature that has 5 presets for different operating modes namely Gaming, Movie, Presentation, Office, and Turbo Battery for maximum battery life.
