New Multi-Screen Display System from Sharp

Sharp Corporation is proud to announce its newly-developed multi-screen display system that’s recognized for achieving the world’s thinnest system frame width of 6.5mm. The said display system will be released in the Japanese market August of this year. Built on the new PN-V601 60V-inch professional LCD monitor, which is aimed to make the seams between bezels unobtrusive and make way for large multi-screen displays. The width of bezels between adjacent displays is 6.5mm. This allows practical applications like single large-screen video wall displays and makes new possibilities in presentation spaces that can’t be achieved through conventional methods.

The system’s PN-V601 comes with a full-array LED backlight. These LED elements are arranged in an evenly spaced line to achieve uniform brightness. This results to even brightness in the display area when making multi-screen configurations. When you combine the optional PN-ZR01 Control Kit with multiple PN-V601 LCD monitors, you will have the ability to control all displays via a single remote control unit. The unit also promises high energy efficiency by controlling the brightness of the backlight through a brightness sensor in order to match the lighting at the installation location.

You can also choose to avail the optional Interface Expansion Board which offers additional inputs including component video, DVI-D, and LAN. Sharp won’t stop in this unit. It will continue to build remarkable, one-of-a-kind units based on the company’s proprietary LCD technologies. This company will also work to put up network-based content distribution systems which deliver optimum solutions to meet the demands of its customers.

Sharp Netwalker – Say Goodbye Luke, Say Hello PC-Z1 Mobile Internet Tool

When the engineers from Sharp decided to cross an amazing threesome of Netbook, PDA and e-Book reader they ended up with an interesting offspring – the new PC-Z1 Mobile Internet tool or netwalker. And no, it is not related to Anakin or Luke but it can pass as C-3P0’s distant cousin from a galaxy far far away. The PC-Z1 Mobile Internet tool can be the nearest thing Earth has for a protocol droid. The netwalker can be an electronic dictionary, used to browse the internet, and read e-books. The device can also create and edit business and office documents like spreadsheets. This cool gadget is like a handheld laptop; the computing power of a PC and portability of a mobile phone rolled into one.
Sharp NetwalkerThe design pretty much resembles a miniature laptop with its 5-inch wide SVGA touch-screen LCD and full keyboard. The familiar design makes web browsing, chatting, blogging and working with office files simple and easy. One great advantage over other mobile devices is its long battery life reaching up to 10 hours and quick launch function. This unit can be used almost immediately like a cellphone.

Instead of C3P0’s AA-1 VerboBrain, the netwalker is powered by an i.MX51 multimedia applications processor made by Freescale Semi Conductors. For the OS, Sharp opted for its own customized Linux/Ubuntu environment. Netwalker also comes with a Wireless LAN, 512 MB fixed RAM and 4 GB flash memory for storage. For expansion options, it has a slot for memory card, a USB and mini USB port.

The First Solar-Powered, Waterproof Handset Goes to Japan This June

Yes, the first solar-powered mobile phone manufactured by Sharp is on its way to see the sunlight in Japan soon, on the airwaves of the wireless carrier KDDI. The handset doesn’t have a name yet, but with its specifications and features, it could very well remain nameless.

The yet unnamed device has a tiny solar panel behind the lid, making it possible to charge through the power of the mighty sun. KDDI says that as little as 10 minutes of sun absorption will get you two hours of standby time, and about a minute of talk time. Needless to say, the phone has also a conventional battery that can be recharged to as much as 80% using solar energy only. Without a doubt, this is one green eco-friendly alternative to traditional mobile phones. The fact that the handset is not dependent on standard electricity to operate will contribute greatly to reducing carbon dioxide emission levels.

And oh, by the way, did I mention that it’s also waterproof? This KDDI solar phone is integrated with a waterproof panel, making it a better choice for careless users who always drop their phones into water. It’s one handy phone for your upcoming summer getaways.

The question now is, how much would you pay for such a phone? There’s no price tag attached to the handset yet and for now, it will only be available in Japan. Let’s just hope that Sharp will consider making the new device available on more markets and not leave it with the “Japan only” mark on it because it’s great to have a handset that recharges from the sunlight while also being water resistant.

Well while we’re waiting to get our own share of solar power, you can browse for some solar mobile chargers right here.
