You must have heard that Nikon reinforced their COOLPIX fleet this year with an armada of performance-oriented compact cameras; and on the lead are the two flagship models – the new COOLPIX P300 and COOLPIX P500. The COOLPIX P300 is the latest addition to the P-series that caters to amateur and professional photographers who want to get the most out of their compact camera. The COOLPIX P500 is the successor of the famous P100 advanced bridge camera and features an even better zoom range. Both cameras share a very sensitive backlit CMOS image sensor, the background illumination allows for shots to be recreated as you experience them even in low light or overly bright conditions.
The COOLPIX P300 comes with a specially designed NIKKOR lens that uses a high-speed f/1.8 aperture, ultra-wide 24mm angle, and is capable of up to 4.2x zoom. It also uses Nikon’s High Refractive lndex glass and 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor that delivers sharp, high-contrast and “true to life†images no matter the light conditions. For total control of every shot, the P300 features full manual controls with four selectable exposure settings: the Programmed Auto, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual. Even capturing moving objects or creating a montage is made easier with the P300 as it can capture 7 consecutive shots at the rate of 8 frames per second. If you want to shoot more than images, the P300 is also capable of 1080p full HD movie recording in stereo sound; optical zoom and autofocus are enabled during recording as well as taking pictures while filming. Slow or fast motion effects by adjusting the recording speeds which can reach up to 120 frames per second in VGA mode. Pictures and videos can be previewed on the camera’s clear 3-inch 921k-dot LCD screen with Nikon’s Clear Color Display technology.
For those who want more muscle for their camera, the COOLPIX P500 sports an astounding 36x zoom and a 22.5mm expandable to 810mm super-telephoto wide-angle that ensures a perfect shot no matter how far the object is. An easy to use side control facilitates smooth and steady zooming even over long distances. The P500 is also loaded with seven anti-blur technologies that work together to counter rough and blurry images: there’s the Hybrid VR to reduce the effect of camera shake, High ISO light sensitivity, Motion detection to balance camera and subject movement, Best Shot Selector, Night Portrait Mode, Night Landscape and HDR backlight mode. For movie recording, the P500 also shares the same features as the P300 with the addition of an integrated HDMI connector and higher recording speeds of up to 240 frames per second at QVGA.
Both the Nikon COOLPIX P300 and P500 are available in color black. The P500 should hit the stores as early as March 3rd while the more affordable P300 will arrive later the 17th of the same month.
