The Beautiful, the Smart and the Lenovo Skylight Smartbook

by twinks on 09/01/10 at 6:00 am

The transition from year 2009 to 2010 need not only celebrated by the best fireworks display to light up the night sky like the one seen on Funchal, Madeira Portugal or in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro Brazil last New Year’s Eve. Lenovo also had something in its sleeves that added light to 2010, particularly on the Consumer Electronics Show that was held this January. The computer giant just unveiled their first take on a more-powerful-than-a-smartphone and more-portable-than-a-netbook hybrid called Lenovo Skylight “Smartbook”.

Weighing less than 2lbs and thinner than your regular smartphone, this is one slim and stylish mobile gadget with a pretty dangerous curves to die for. The Lenovo Skylight uses a brilliant 10-inch High Definition screen that is perfect for watching videos or viewing images, add the web-optimized interface and you’re in for one visual multimedia and web experience. The ultra-slim form factor that fits to almost any bag, solid connectivity features and overnight-rechargeable 10 hours battery life is everything you need to be on the go.

In perfect timing for the Year of the Dragon, the Skylight is powered by a powerful 1GHz-plus Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM processors – perhaps a good omen for Lenovo and consumers alike. It also features a 20GB internal storage with and additional 2GB online. It is also built on a Linux platform with a custom web friendly interface made of live web gadgets.

Fujitsu MH380 Netbook with Intel Pine Trail

by jrjuan on 26/12/09 at 12:00 pm

Netbooks were definitely big this year. There were a lot of models to choose from with different brands but with almost the same specs. The netbook segment won’t just be like that since a new platform is coming to the successful Atom, the Pine Trail, and it is running on the Fujitsu MH380.

I know it might sound out of nowhere that the codename for Atom’s next generation platform is Pine Trail but here is the big improvement. The Pine Trail platform uses 2 chips instead of the previous 3 platform. This is done by combining the processor and graphics processing unit (GPU) on a single chip. With this, manufacturers now have the option of squeezing in more battery life or giving netbooks a speed boost. Fujitsu was one of the first to make a netbook on the Pine Trail with the MH380, but users still have to hold off their purchase since it will be launched early 2010. The specifications of the MH380 though have surfaced and it will come in Brown, Ivory, White, and Diamond Black and are designed exquisitely using chrome accents. It will have a 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor with 2GB of memory and 250GB of hard drive space. The usuals are also there like an SDHC card reader, 1.3 megapixel web cam, WiFi, and bluetooth. What’s unique with this netbook is the availability of a scroll wheel right beside the multi-gesture trackpad. It has also a sharing feature where it can connect to an ODD drive (DVD/CD) of home PCs and notebooks through a wireless or USB connection.

enTourage eDGe: e-book reader and Netbook Combined

by mydz on 31/10/09 at 6:42 am

A new word has just been created by enTourage eDGe to describe their e-reader, netbook, audio/video recorder and player: dualbook. With their dualbook, you’ll be able to read eBooks, browse the web, listen to music, watch videos, use your IM, email, and more. This latest geek gadget is half 9.7-inch 1200 x 825 e-reader, half 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 netbook. The 9.7-inch screen makes reading e-books much easier [compared to smaller screens], reducing the number of page turns and it includes the features of other e-readers, with zooming capability, a glare-free screen, and the ability to read in sunlight. entourage-edgeMeanwhile, the 10.1-inch lets you play movies or MP3s, instant message your friends, or organize your books, notes, and pictures. The netbook also includes an audio recorder to capture lectures for later playback or sharing and a video camera to record still images or movies as MP4s or 3GP files. Of course, it has a built-in WiFi, plus optional 3G capability using an EVDO or HSDPA mobile modem. And just like the Alex and nook, the enTourage eDGe uses the Google Android operating system, so you can add other applications you need. The eDGe also includes Bluetooth capability to add an external keyboard.

Other connectivity options include an SD memory card slot, two USB 2.0 ports, plus a 3.5-mm audio and microphone jack. And you can carry thousands of books – thanks to its built-in 3GB of memory. The eDGe also sports a lithium ion polymer battery that can last up to 6 hours of use without recharging. One of the big advantages of the enTourage eDGe is that the battery can be replaced if it’s needed – that lets you keep a spare on hand, if you want to have a backup for busy days.

The eDGe isn’t scheduled to ship until February 2010 [so it’s still a few months away], though soon enough for the company to be taking pre-orders. It comes in Midnight Blue for $490, plus an extra $40 for colors of Ruby Red, Glacier White or Ice Blue.

AspireRevo Nettop

by jrjuan on 20/10/09 at 12:00 pm

Aside from Intel Atom processors dominating the netbook market, it has also invaded nettops or like the desktop version of the netbook. They are also small, compact, energy efficient and can even be hidden from view. These nettops also has the capability of standard desktop computers with little to compromise.

revo-217x200The AspireRevo was newly introduced to the US as a nettop with an edge – thanks to Nvidia’s new ION Graphics Solution that allows this little device to play even the most demanding 1080p high definition movies with ease. Even gamers can enjoy aside from movie buffs since the ION can also process DirectX10 games. The AspireRevo can be hidden from view because it can be attached to any LCD TV or monitor through the special VESA attachment.

It is like having your own all in one PC with just the LCD monitor in view. You can even use this as a multimedia tank (just have a large hard drive installed). Over at the specifications, this nettop is pretty decent with an Intel Atom 330 processor, 2GB DDR2 memory, 160GB Hard Drive, WiFi, high definition speaker and microphone jack, VGA port, HDMI port, and six USB ports. The six USB ports will definitely eliminate the need for a USB hub unless you have to attach all of your USB launcher, humping dog, chargers etc all at once.

Acer is one of the leading computer manufacturers when it comes to computers so quality in their products can be expected. You can get Aspire Nettops for yourself over here.
