AT&T and Samsung Launched the SGH-a657

sgh-a657Samsung may have been thinking of a reliable, rugged phone worthy for military use and it looks like the Samsung SGH-a657 is the perfect fit. Built like a brick and shaped like one too, the SGH-a657 is one tough phone and it looks like it could take quite a few blows. It is certified to meet military specifications for dust, shock and vibration as well as heat and cold, which only means that it can handle anything you can dish out. It even has a built-in flashlight, just in case you drop the keys of your military vehicle along the way.

Boasting of a rugged bar design, a rubberized grip,  and belt clip, the Samsung SGH-a657’s features are also respectable. There’s no camera, but you get 3G, push-to-talk, Bluetooth, and GPS. With a Bluetooth headset and the a657, you can go hands-free and wireless while with the push-to-talk, you can connect with up to six co-workers simultaneously. And with the AT&T navigator, you may never ask for directions again. The a657 and AT&T navigator give you audible turn-by-turn directions and driving maps to wherever you want to go, whether it’s a quick trip or a road trip.

You can enjoy listening to your favorite music because the Samsung SGH-a657 comes with 128MB of internal memory. If you think, it’s not enough; the expandable microSD card support will cover it. It has also a hefty 1,000-contact phonebook with room in each entry for six phone numbers, an email address, an instant messaging handle, and notes.

The Samsung SGH-a657 will be available soon as AT&T has declared, but pricing has not been announced.

Well the Geneva Car Show was concluded last month, and maybe this one-of-a-kind showcase of high-end automobiles and futuristic vehicles will keep ‘em car fanatics buying. More cars on the road equals more lost cars on the road. Which is why it’s quite timely to be rolling out these GPS navigation devices. And the latest company to do so is TomTom, which has just launched four models in the US – the TomTom ONE 140/140S and the TomTom XL 340/340S.

Both series incorporate TomTom’s “IQ Routes” technology and Advanced Lane Guidance – features that were formerly only available on TomTom’s premium GPS devices. “IQ Routes” technology incorporates historical speed profile data for both day of week and time of day to calculate the fastest route available based on when the user is actually driving to their destination. Advanced Lane Guidance provides users with realistic representations of complex highway junctions and lane specific visual directions that take the stress out of navigating these otherwise challenging areas. This feature can indicate which lane to take when multiple exits are close together.

Now that we’ve seen what these devices have in common, let’s take a quick look at the features and specs that set them apart. The TomTom ONE 140/140S sports a 3.5-inch screen, new look with a high-quality black finish and latest TomTom navigation software. The TomTom XL 340/340S on the other hand offers all key functionalities of the TomTom ONE on an extra large 4.3-inch touch screen for improved visibility of a driver’s surroundings.

These GPS navigators will be in stores across the US and Canada this month with the following prices: TomTom ONE 140, $179.95; TomTom ONE 140S, $199.95; TomTom XL 340, 229.95; TomTom XL 340S, $249.95.
