1Cross Tech’s Book is a Hybrid eBook Reader

Ebook readers have already gone far when it comes to providing a paper-like experience on a handheld device. The Amazon Kindle itself made a name by giving great experience for ebook fanatics. However, a new challenger is ready to take a bite at this very lucrative market – the Book.

The 1Cross Tech ebook reader is a hybrid between an ebook reader and a mobile internet device (MID). It has an e-ink display on the left and a 3.2inch color display with touch screen and a keypad on the right. Individually, we see them in gadgets around such as existent e-readers and touch screen cellphones. But combined, it is something that hasn’t been done before.

One cool feature of having dual display on the Book is the ability to Pack and Go. This feature is called that way because you can surf the internet on the color display on the right and download all the content that you want. You can get pdf files, news articles and clippings, ebooks, etc and you can “drag” them to the left side of the Book and access them when you have time. Powered by Android, this e-reader is very versatile when it comes to customizations due to the potential development of the platform.

As for the body, it ain’t as thin as a Kindle due to the dual display mechanism. It can also look like a netbook from afar or a really big Nintendo DS. Unfortunately, there is no word yet for the price or availability of this e-reader.

According to a study, out of 150 million GPS shipped in the mid of 2009, 35 million of which are aftermarket products which you can buy through electronics retailers while the rest are built-in (in cars) upon purchase. Thirty five million units is huge considering that GPS aren’t cheap. This could be to the fact that people want a better way to navigate especially that roads seem to get clogged more often nowadays. GPS devices are also used as media players and even some old GPS units are “unlocked” to play media files.

The Cydle T34H wants to give users the best experience of GPS navigation with entertainment right in your car. In fact, this gadget is the only GPS device with an HD radio receiver. Digicube showcases newest MID-slash-cellphone

A MID is a shortcut for Mobile Internet Device. It is a handheld computer which provides wireless internet access. They are larger than the smartphones but smaller than Ultra Mobile PC.

IMG_2260Digicube has unveiled its newest MID, the MIDPhone-50. Its operating system is Windows XP. Its 800×480 touchscreen monitor measures 4.5 inches, and its keyboard is of the QWERTY kind.

It also has slots for mini USB, standard USB, and microSD. Other than these, it has a docking station with VGA output and a headset socket.

For its other specifications, it has the Intel Atom Z-series and its RAM has a maximum limit of 1 Gb, and like almost all laptops, it has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Although it has the touchscreen monitor, the area of bezel patterned like a flower found at the right of the display is sensitive by touch and is used for navigation.

However, one of the biggest downsides of the MIDPhone-50 is its battery life. Its energy only lasts for two hours before it shuts down with lack of power. It comes though with a battery charger.

Other than all these, this amazing MID is also a 3G cellphone.

The MID can prove very useful to students and professionals alike. Other than its portability, most MIDs are also almost complete with the features of a personal computer.  Since these are used when away from home, it will be perfect since you do not need everything from your PC brought to your work.

There is no news yet on the MIDPhone’s price and its availability date.

It means that it’s not just a touch-screen, the screen touches back. Believe you me, this makes for easier navigation. You can find out more about haptics right here.

Viliv X70 Atom

x70

After showing everybody that tablet notebooks can be netbooks too and even make it gorgeous with their S7, Viliv again has another portable computer up their sleeves.

The Viliv X70 Atom is a full touchscreen Mobile Internet Device (MID) that is designed to be in between work and play. This MID runs on the relatively slower 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor as compared to the S7. The screen of the X70 is a 7 inch superfine touch LCD display that has a screen ratio of 1024×600 which is a good resolution for a 7″ screen, even better than Asus Eee’s 800×600. 1GB of memory is factory installed though upgrade options is not clear. An optional 8/16GB solid state drive storage is offered but if space is a factor, then go for the 30/60GB option of hard disk drive. Connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and WiMax;HSDPA. Of course, the basic mic, USB ports, and a SD/SDHC card slot is included.

Like the Viliv S7, the X70 also has an outstanding battery life of 6 hours on video which is a huge plus for this device. Also, take note that the opertaing system is an option between Linux and Windows XP. Whichever you choose, it seems that Viliv made some user interface enhancements allowing users to easily run applications on the X70 as shown by the large, finger-friendly icons on the screen.
