LG X300 Thin and Light Notebook

This slim computer was first introduced during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2010 at Las Vegas last January 7, 2010. It wowed the visitors as LG showcased a flagship model this year for their thin and light category. This notebook has the looks, the appeal, and performance to entice prospective buyers to swipe their credit cards into getting a new computer.

The X300 has a distinct chiclet type keyboard and a sleek white body that might make you compare this to a MacBook Air. While no one can ignore the similarity in design, the inside is pure PC. This computer only weighs very light at 970 grams and ultra thin at 17.5mm! Windows 7 Home Premium comes preinstalled along with additional software that LG has added to the computer. The display is 11.6″ wide and has eschewed the bezel to maximize the viewing area much like a borderless display. To match the elegant screen is the wide touch pad that is seamlessly incorporated with the palm rest.

A 2GB Intel Z500 (Menlow) processor runs all the applications paired with a 2GB RAM. A 128GB SSD storage has been chosen to limit power consumption and maximize portability. The fan-less design eliminates noise, keeps the thin profile of the notebook, and reduces the power consumption. There are two 2-cell batteries that are included in each purchase with each giving a manufacturer rated running time of 3.5 hours which total to 7 hours on both batteries. While a total of 7 hours seems to be the standard for ultraportables, bringing two batteries is just inconvenient and switching between them is such a hassle.

There is an embedded 3G modem chipset to allow users to get online via EDGE or HSDPA when available.

Watch for the X300 since LG promised to let this baby loose in mid March 2010.

LG XF2 Media Player

Seen a lot of storage based media players for the past year. All of them were loaded with all the bells and whistles, claims to be the first this and first that, came from a well known manufacturer and so on. But one look with the LG XF2 and I felt my hand grabbing for my wallet to get one.

Just one look on this media player will captivate your eyes in its sleek and gorgeous design. The whole thing looks like an upper portion of a slider phone like the ones from Samsung (U600 and U700). It uses only an HDMI output making it compact with less components to accommodate for video outputs but also would restrict its users to use HDMI. Though you could say that most TVs nowadays come with an HDMI input, some still don’t and we cannot blame them for not getting a new TV.

Over at the specs, it can play mkv, asf, avi, rm, rmvb, dat, mpg, mpeg, vob, iso, lfo, ts, m2ts, tp, mp4, mov, flv, and xvid video file formats with srt, sub, smi, ssa, idx+ movie subtitles format. Music with mp3, wma, asf, wav, and flac and photos with JPG, BMP, PNG / GIF (Interlace/Animation mode is not supported), TIFF (Raw data mode support). In addition, this media player supports 5.1 DTS sound system and 1080p full HD video output.

You can get this media player by April in South Korea so for now, you just have to settle with your current media player. Or maybe you can get a new HDMI capable TV in preparation for this one.
