Iomega Ego USB 3.0: Improved Efficiency Coupled with Ruggedness, at a Low Price

If you love the USB 2.0, then you will find the 3.0 even more lovable! Iomega is moving from its USB 2.0 generation toward the 3.0 with its Ego line-up of portable hard drives. And what do you get from this new hard drive generation? Check these features out:

  • Improved speed. The USB 3.0 is 10 times faster than the USB 2.0 – cool!
  • Improved security. That’s thanks to the AES 256 full-disk hardware encryption.
  • Improved durability. The device features the Drop Guard Xtreme that can protect it from fall of up to seven feet.
  • Low price. All of the mentioned additional features, and more, you can get at the price of the USB 2.0.

One of the coolest software included in the USB 3.0 is the v.Clone, a software that allows the device to save a “clone” of your PC – settings, applications, and all others – so that you can have all your settings intact even if you work on a different computer – kind of bringing your PC with you anywhere, without literally bringing it. The Ego 3.0 will be offered this coming October, in choices of 500 GB and 1 TB capacities. It is compatible with all USB 2.0 ports, so you won’t need whatever upgrade or modification. It’s also ideal to carry with you wherever you go with its compact 2.5-inch size. Plus, it won’t require additional power other than that provided by your PC or laptop. While you wait for the Ego USB 3.0 to be released, you might want to check out an Iomega Ego USB 2.0 at Amazon.

v.Clone: Lets you Open your C:drive in Any Computer

Wondering if it’s possible to take your PC virtually anywhere without actually carrying the unit to and fro? The Iomega v.Clone will do just that. This is a pretty neat software that confines a complete virtual image of your personal computer (including all the applications, settings, the operating systems, as well as all your files) in your Iomega hard drive. You can use the cloned copy on another computer. Mind you, it will seem like you’re just working from your own PC. As soon as you reconnect, this software will automatically sync your data to your PC. There’s nothing to worry about, though, because everything is up to date.
The v.Clone has three specific functions – USE IT, CLONE IT, and SYNC IT. Its CLONE IT function gives you the convenience of taking your settings, applications, files, and operating system wherever you go via your external hard drive. The v.Clone does this by producing a virtual copy of your primary PC on your iOmerga external hard drive. If you want to access your files and applications even when you’re far from home, that’s where the v.Clone’s USE IT function comes in. All you need to do is plug your Iomega hard drive into another PC and you can enjoy updating your files and using all your applications. The moment you return to your primary computer, that’s the time that you’ll use its SYNC IT feature. By syncing your data back, your applications and files will always be up to date.

One thing more, with v.Clone, you can rest assured than even if your primary computer crashes, you’ll have a supplementary copy of everything that’s stored in there. In addition to the v.Clone, you can also get an Iomega portable hard drive at Amazon.

iomega StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage

If you liked the StorCenter ix2 NAS server, iomega has some news for you! The company has just announced the next generation of the server, the iomega StorCenter ix2-200.

ix2_200Available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities, the new ix2-200 is brimming with business features including RAID 1 configurations for optimized data protection, device-device replication for business continuity and file recovery, Windows Active Directory Support, QuickTransfer button for easy copying of selected files, iSCSI block-level access for efficient storage utilization, multiple IP security camera support, and VMware certification for virtualization installations.

The ix2-200 also has a treasure trove of features for the digital home including Bluetooth capability for uploading all kinds of digital content from a smart phone, built-in torrent support for file-sharing without the need for a dedicated PC, A DLNA certified UPnP AV Media Server that makes the ix2-200 the central repository for serving up all your movies, photos, music, and other files to any compatible device on your network, and three USB ports that can be used with both USB external hard drives and printers.

The new ix2-200 is also a power saving “green” NAS appliance. Iomega claims the StorCenter ix2-200 consumes less power than previous models. The server automatically spins the hard drive down when it’s idle and comes with an Energy Star-certified power supply. But like the previous version, the new server doesn’t offer a quick way to replace the hard drive. You will have to use quite a bit of screwdriving work to get this done, which means no hot-swapping, either.

The new 1TB StorCenter ix2-200 NAS appliance is available now and costs $270 for the 1TB version and $370 for the 2TB version. The 4TB model, which will be available later this month, will cost $670. All versions of the StorCenter ix2-200 are backed by a three-year warranty. You may also be interested with the old version, the Iomega StorCenter ix2 available at Amazon.
