Are you still deciding whether to get a laptop with its mobile performance advantage and familiar design or a tablet with its ease of use and ultra-portable form factor? Why not just get both? No you don’t have to buy two separate gadgets – especially now that Samsung managed to successfully fuse a laptop and a notebook together in a fancy sliding form factor. The new Samsung PC 7 series is a light and compact tablet with an integrated sliding keyboard for easier typing and better productivity. To shift from the multi-touch display to a full keyboard and mouse combo, simply slide the screen up to expose the discrete keyboard. It is the first sliding PC from Samsung and it comes with a next generation 1.66GHz Intel Atom Z670 Oak Trail processor, and the latest Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

The Samsung Sliding PC 7 series weighs just around 2.2 lbs. and can easily fit a briefcase, a useful feature for those who present and records data on the go. Its 10.1-inch display is optimized for both office and field work as it features 340-nit brightness and High Definition 1366 x 768 resolution. To keep up with the day’s task with minimal recharging, Samsung installed a high capacity six-cell lithium-polymer battery and a practical Eco Light Sensor that auto adjusts the screen brightness basing on the lighting condition to help conserve energy and extend the battery life up to 9 hours. This notebook and tablet hybrid is available in 32GB and 64GB solid state drive variants. Porsche Plug-in Hybrid 918 Spyder – From Concept to Production

Move over Spidey – a new eco-friendly neighborhood spyder will be arriving in town. Porsche finally announced that they would take orders for the new 918 Spyder – an all-wheel drive, advanced plug-in hybrid super sports car powered by a mid-mounted, 500-plus horsepower, 4.0 liter V8 engine assisted by two electric motors with 218 combined horsepower. Porsche claims that the new 918 Spyder will sip only about 3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers and emit 70 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer – pretty good numbers for a sports car that can go from zero to 60 mph in just about 3.1 seconds and top at 199 mph. On the other hand, running alone on the two electric motors can drive the 918 for 16 miles or boost it to speeds up to 94 mph for a limited distance given the proper conditions. The electric motors are powered by liquid-cooled lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged for seven hours from any standard household outlet. By combining breathtaking speeds and fuel economy, the Porsche 918 Spyder basically allows you to enjoy high speeds longer.

The final external design of the Porsche 918 Spyder is a combination of Carrera GT, 917, RS Spyder, and the 2010 Hybrid Spyder concept car. But unlike the previously revealed concept model, the 918 will be a two-seater and will feature a carbon-fiber reinforced plastic monocoque and a manual roof system with removable panels that can be kept in the front luggage compartment.

The 918 Spyder will be limited to 918 units and should arrive in the US shores by 2013.

Samsung NX5 Hybrid DLSR Camera

Samsung has just expanded its line of NX Series cameras with the addition of the Samsung NX5. Considered by some people as the little brother of the famous NX10, the NX5 is a hybrid DSLR camera with the functions of a DSLR unit packed in a smaller scale within a smaller body. Though the company released only limited information about the features of this unit and how it differs with its high-end NX10 version, some details have been revealed like the 14.6 megapixel APS-sized CMOS image sensor which is similar to that of its predecessor.

Another feature derived from the NX10 is the interchangeable lens system and other notable features including autofocus with contrast detecting. The NX10’s AMOLED display was replaced with a common and cheaper 3-inch TFT-based LCD display in the NX5. This new unit will also be outfitted with an electronic viewfinder. The body and control scheme of such camera also appear to be the same to that of the NX10.

In Europe, shipping of this Samsung baby will begin this month and it is priced at 699EUR. Much like its features, plans for selling this unit in other markets have not been disclosed yet. So if you feel the need for such device, just check out the availability of its high-end brother, the Samsung NX10, at Amazon.

SANYO eneloop Hybrid Bicycle

Growing up as a kid, all you ever wanted was a bicycle that you see all the cool kids have. You might even remember putting a baseball card in the bike’s frame to make cool sounds as the card hit the spokes. Well, the bicycle we all know has upgraded to help us go green (as if pedaling wasn’t enough) by making a bike ride more comfortable and probably help reduce car usage.

There are already hybrid bicycles out in the market. However, their mechanism of charging only kicks in when you go downhill or when you are decelerating. You therefore don’t charge the batteries whenever you pedal, where most of your time do when riding a bike. This makes you worry that you could run out of battery whenever you are on assisted pedal mode when going uphill.

With SANYO’s eneloop Eco Charge Mode featuring the “Loop Charge” model, you also charge the bicycle’s battery whenever you pedal. The bike is also intelligent in terms of knowing how much resistance it will give you to run the dynamo and charge the battery. Like when you are on a relatively flat surface, it gives you more resistance than when riding on an inclined plane where assisted pedaling would kick in. This makes riding the bike more pleasurable, comfortable, and hassle free.

The company will start releasing this product in Japan on April 21, 2010 with a monthly production volume of 10,000 units. It will sell for 157, 290 yen or approximately $1,800.
