Toshiba introduced two new external hard drives that look more to may have been made in their ore refinery and forges rather than their research and development department. The STOR.E STEEL S and STOR.E ALU 2S are two metal-encased high capacity external hard drives that feature the latest USB 3.0 interface boasting data transfer rates of up to 5 Gigabits per second. Their metallic enclosures add robustness and durability to their design. The STOR.E ALU 2S will come in either black or silver brushed aluminum while the STEEL S will come in silver, black, or titanium colored steel.
Although the STEEL S and ALU 2S are based on a USB 3.0 interface, both are still backwards compatible with the more widely used USB 2.0 interfaces. The two external drives are Toshiba’s answer to demands of a reliable, large capacity, and fast storage solution fit for the new digital age. The two models offer users a quick way to transfer their large digital files like videos, music, and images from a computer to a back up storage, and vice versa.
The Toshiba STOR.E STEEL S and STOR.E ALU 2S come in a 2.5-inch form factor with capacities up to 1 Terabyte. The external drives are powered by a USB connection. With their durable, portable and lightweight design, these large capacity external HDDs are the ideal mobile storage medium. The STOR.E ALU 2S is also available with a 3.5-inch hard disk best for stationary home or office use. The 3.5-inch version features a capacity of up to 2 Terabytes to accommodate the largest collections of multimedia files.

Do you still bring your laptop with you just to carry your data or pry open a computer so that you can bring your hard drive with you and all its precious contents? Do you still hand carry your office or school documents and paperwork? Do you still dread the day when your computer crashes, bringing along your life’s worth of data with it? If yes, then maybe it’s time to consider the new Toshiba Canvio Portable Hard Drive, an easy-to-use computer backup solution with up to 1 Terabyte of storage capacity to protect and carry large amounts of digital content. If you’re a Roman Prelate or Roman Centurion General named Minimus, it may raise some eyebrows, a few laughs from the crowd or disrespectful jeers from an invading barbarian horde. But if it’s a LaCie ultra-compact 1 Terabyte external hard drive with USB 3.0 interface and resistant aluminum enclosure – even if it’s name Minimus, it’s no laughing matter. With the new LaCie Minimus, you’ve got the power and performance of USB 3.0 combined with a handy portable size. Compared to other desktop drives, it’s one of the smallest on the market making it the perfect hard drive for those who want to carry Terabytes worth of data on them without the extra bulk. With USB 3.0, the fastest interface on the market, it’s also easy to move HD movies, photos, and sound files between drives. Since the LaCie Minimus is backward compatible with USB 2.0, it’s guaranteed to work with any PC or Mac.
