Energy Orb Helps You Use Electricity Wisely

So you’re an energy-conscious citizen. Then you sure will be happy to know that there’s now a device that will help you recognize the best times to consume more or less energy. This amazing little gadget that puts the electricity info you need right at your fingertips, is called the Energy Orb. Developed by Mark Martinez, station manager of South California Edison Power Company, the Energy Orb can be used to visualize the present grid load and the relative cost of electricity at a certain period.

We cannot see electricity. So you can’t monitor how much you’re using or wasting until your bill arrives. Before, we have no way of finding when the grid is getting close to its capacity and when it’s expensive to use electrical appliances. This is a great way to alert subscribers that the chance for the grid to become overloaded is fast increasing. By so doing, consumers can take necessary steps to limit energy consumption during potentially crucial hours. The Energy Orb is a great investment since it helps lessen the load on the system before the time comes that the world no longer has electrical energy to consume.

The Orb’s change in color represents a particular status of an occurrence. Solid blue means standby; solid yellow means day-ahead warning has been given; and pulsing yellow means an event will take place later. The light turns solid red if the event is presently in progress and it becomes pulsing red if an event is on-going and another one is issued for the next day. Solid green color, on the other hand, means demand response notification system is being tested.
