Sony Tablet and Android 3.0 – The New Super Combo

Sony and Android is an exciting partnership that is probably second only to William and Kate or Brad and Angelina. It may not be the wedding of the century but it is something that every descent techie is looking forward to, and why not? Sony just declared that they will be releasing not one, but two “Sony Tablet” with Android in the near future – this year future. These new mobile gadgets are said to combine advanced hardware, rich content, and seamless connectivity with top notch and immersive entertainment experience. The first tablet is codenamed S1 and is hinted to be made for multimedia entertainment; the second tablet is codenamed S2 and is optimized for both mobile communication and entertainment. Both models will run on the latest Android 3.0 – a mobile operating system with holographic interface specially designed to cater to tablets and other devices with larger screens. Sony Tablet will feature Wi-Fi and WAN (3G/4G) connectivity for faster web browsing and smoother access to Sony’s premium network services and online digital contents like videos, games, and eBooks.

The Sony S1 will feature a 9.4 inch display and a special off-center of gravity design made to add stability and ease of grip, ensuring comfortable use even at prolonged hours. The S2 on the other hand will come with two 5.5-inch displays that can be folded for improved portability. Its dual screen configuration allows for a single combined display or separate displays each with its own content and function.

Lenovo continues to push the limits of their laptops and convertible tablet PCs with the latest addition to their ThinkPad X and Tablet PC series. The new Thinkpad X220 laptop and X220 convertible tablet PC for mobile business applications offer the full performance and functionality of desktops inside a lightweight and ultra-portable design. These new models boast up to 75 percent increase in processing speed, longer battery life, and a more durable design as compared to other competitors. They owe the speed mainly to the powerful second generation Intel Core i7 processors with Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 that boosts processor speed during intensive tasks. The CPU power is further enhanced with Lenovo Turbo Boost plus, an exclusive Lenovo application that enables the Turbo Boost mode to last longer by keeping the processor temperatures below specific thresholds. The tablet on the other hand uses a standard 4-cell battery and can last up to 16 hours when upgraded to a 6-cell battery with an external battery pack.
The ThinkPad X220 laptop and X220 Tablet both feature 12.5-inch HD screen with self-closing and space-saving hinges that also double as an antenna and hold the speakers. The ThinkPad X220 uses a large button-less multi-touchpad and spill resistant keyboard for navigation while the X220 tablet uses a multi-touch 300-nit screen with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass.

Apple iPad 2 – Slimmer, Lighter and So Much Better

A new Apple is ripe for the picking this season and sure enough, techies are already looking to grab a bite. Even Snow White would find the new Apple iPad 2 hard to resist and who can blame her, especially when this device is 33 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than its predecessor. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; iPad 2 now runs on a more powerful dual-core A4 processor and a battery that can last up to 10 hours. It retained its previous 9.7-inch LED-backlit LCD screen but two new distinctive front and rear mounted cameras were added. Yes, you know what that means – FaceTime. The front VGA camera allows iPad 2 users to make FaceTime video calls to millions of iPhone 4, iPod touch and Mac owners. The rear camera on the other hand can capture 720p HD video.

This Apple tablet operates on iOS 4.3, mobile operating system that features an improved Safari mobile browser, new iTunes Home Sharing, AirPlay enhancements, and Personal Hotspot for Wi-Fi sharing. Other noteworthy features include an integrated gyro for enhanced gaming experience, HSUPA support for faster 3G upload speeds, and HDMI Video Mirroring for duplicating the iPad screen on an HDTV via an adaptor.

Even before the new iPad 2 is released to the market there are already accessories and apps awaiting its arrival. One such is the iPad 2 Smart Cover that protects iPad screen while keeping its thin and lightweight profile. Two new apps from Apple where also introduced in time for the launching of their new product: the iMovie for video editing and publishing and GarageBand for turning the tablet into a one-man band and recording studio.

LG Optimus Pad – Dual Core, Android 3.0, 3D and Ready


In an almost endless stream of new gadgets, a new tablet didn’t go unnoticed despite the fierce competition – the LG Optimus Pad Tablet. Introduced during the 2011 Mobile World Congress (MWC), LG Optimus Pad Tablet turned more than a few heads, earned its fair share of nods, and got the respect of many with its impressive specifications. It features an Android 3.0 platform, 1 GHz Dual Core NVDIA Tegra 2 processor, 8.9-inch capacitive touch screen and two HD-video capable 5MP cameras at the back.

One of LG Optimus Pad’s more exciting features is its 3D camera that can capture and be viewed on 3D TV’s thru HDMI or online thru YouTube 3D. Other things to look out for will be the integrated video conferencing feature and the large library of high-quality games through the Tegra Zone app. LG Optimus Pad is expected to hit the tablet market this March.

HTC Joins the Tablet Battle with HTC Flyer

Better late than never – HTC finally jumped into the tablet craze with their first tablet, the new HTC Flyer. For mobile entertainment, it has HTC watch – an affordable video download apps and service that offers HD movies. For mobile gaming, HTC uses OnLive cloud-based gaming service that enables subscribers to play games on their TV or computers by using HTC Flyer’s broadband wireless connection.

HTC Flyer is confined in an ultra-lightweight and compact aluminum unibody construction. It utilizes a 7-inch HTC Scribe-enhanced screen and relies on a powerful 1.5 GHz processor for computing and high-speed HSPA+ for wireless connectivity. It should be available globally by the second quarter of 2011.
