It’s always heartwarming when leading technology companies and top computer vendors work together to contribute to humanity. Intel, the company that gave world the iCore, Atom and Xeon processors, some time ago developed the reference design of the Classmate PC – a cost effective netbook specially engineered for children living in developing countries with limited access to modern technology. Lenovo, taking advantage of Intel’s information and communication technologies development campaign, collaborated with the semi-conductor chip giant and added some modifications on their own to the Classmate PC. The result is the Lenovo Classmate Plus PC, a purpose-specific notebook designed to work with and improve the learning experience of students in grades K-8. This educational gadget offers schools and similar institutions an affordable, educational and complete hardware and software solution tailored for children. One of the first who’ll get their hands on the Lenovo Classmate Plus laptop will be the 158,000 beneficiaries of the Organization of Ibero-American States’ Conectar Igualdad 1:1 computing program.
Being a product of Intel-Lenovo team-up, the Classmate Plus nothing short of a fully functional computer: it features an Intel N455 Atom processor, Ethernet and Wi-Fi Internet connectivity, Windows 7 operating system and high-capacity storage up to 250 GB HDD or up to 16GB SSD. It also has a 10.1-inch anti-glare LED backlit screen, a 1.3 megapixel camera, multiple USB ports and a 4-in-1 card reader. Furthermore, this PC will come pre-installed with Intel’s specialized educational software plus a collection of teaching resources.

You don’t need a supercomputer to take down goliath applications and crunch high definition videos – sometimes a 10.1 inch mini is good enough especially if it’s HP. Introducing the latest addition to entry level HP netbook family, the new Mini 210 HD Edition. The slim and light design measures barely an inch thick and weighs only 2.69 pounds. On the outside, its aesthetics include the usual rounded corners, lightly curved lid edges, and a long tapered body typical of HP netbooks. The basic edition comes silver crystal but for a few extra bucks you can get the cooler sonoma red, pacific blue, black crystal, white crystal with white keyboard and preppy pink with pink keyboard colors. The keyboard is Island-style and about 93% of the standard size. The Mini 210 HD edition has 10.1†screen that natively supports 1,366×768 resolution for a full 720p HD experience. You can move your HD experience to the next level by adding an optional Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator to elevate your mobile entertainment into 1080p HD.
