We have reviewed a lot of netbooks in this website and so far, the quality of these netbooks is nothing short of amazing. At 2.6 pounds (that’s almost one-thirds the weight of a regular laptop), the MSI Wind is as light as it is compact. WIND stands for “Wi-Fi Network Device” but I would have deduced that it’s called the “Wind” for being lightweight. Running on an Intel Atom 1.6GHz Processor, nothing bad can be said about its speed, although the maximum you can upgrade the RAM is 2GB. It also comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera and a microphone, perfect for video chatting and the like.
Now let’s talk about connectivity: Aside from Wi-Fi, the Wind is compatible with Bluetooth as well. It has 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals, 1 headphone/line-in and 1 microphone/line-out, a VGA video output (15-pin, D-Sub), a 4-in-1 memory card reader, compatible with Secure Digital (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick, and Memory Stick Pro and a Fast Ethernet port for a 10/100 connection. Design-wise, from some reviews, most users have noted that the screen is very clear but not overly bright so as to cause temporary blindness. One major complaint however is the “tippiness” issue, which is not really that big of a problem if you will be using your netbook on a table top instead of your lap.
Design flaws aside, the MSI Wind has more pros than cons, and at $429.99, it’s not as expensive as higher-end netbooks out in the market. Bottomline is, you get what you pay for and for what it’s worth, you have to agree that the “Wind” is a cool name for a netbook, right?
