Sony Goes Digital with Their Two New Radios

The latest radios nowadays are now what they used to – at least to the updated and more techie listeners. In a market dominated by FM transmissions and analog radios, Sony introduced their next generation of radios specially made to tune-in to the more advanced Digital Audio Broadcasting Plus (DAB+) transmissions. The XDR-S16DBP portable radio and XDR C706DBP clock radio are digital receivers that supports DAB, DAB+, and FM transmissions. These two models are the first of Sony’s micro radios that are compatible with the new DAB+ enhanced digital broadcasting standard that’s gaining popularity in different European territories. The new digital format allows for a more efficient coding scheme so listeners can have access to an even wider range of radio stations, and clearer and interference-free audio as compared to traditional FM systems. Both the XDR-S16DBP and XDR C706DBP will have 10 DAB and DAB+ presets as well as 10 FM presets for easy access to your favorite digital broadcasting stations.

Encased in a curved natural wood cabinet, the XDR-S16DBP comes in an old school radio design with clean, retro inspired lines that accentuates the radios simple and neatly set knobs and controls. It is outfitted with two 0.8W stereo speakers for a crisp and clear audio reproduction, and a clear 16×2 character LCD screen that shows DAB/DAB+ channel and program information. Furthermore, it comes with a Sleep Timer that automatically turns the radio off after a set scheduled time, and a headphone jack for private listening. The XDR-S16DBP is AC powered and comes with the AC adaptor included.

The XDR-C706DBP clock radio on the other hand comes in a stylish and compact design that would perfectly complement any bedroom. It uses a 0.4W mono speaker for reproducing DAB, DAB+ and FM broadcasts in clear audio quality. It features a large and easily readable LCD screen that displays the current time. Additionally, it comes with adjustable brightness settings and up to four individual alarms that can be programmed to different schedules. It also features a snooze button and sleep timer for that “a minute more of sleep” moment before waking up.
