Making a Fresh Start with The New Xperia Arc

2010 hasn’t been much of a good year for Sony Ericsson as its previous flagship phone, the Xperia X10, continued to disappoint compared to the likes of smartphone veterans HTC and Samsung. The X10 was a complete lackluster with only Android 1.6 aka “Donut” on its core upon launch while others were already having a taste of 2.1 dubbed “Eclair”. OS aside, it also lacked pinch-to-zoom which most people find a very useful feature of their smartphones and generally the phone was buggy. Updates were promised but it almost took a year for them to roll-out.

This year, the company is determined to change its ways with this year’s flagship phones, the Xperia Arc and Play. The Arc features a a super-slim design while sporting a 4.2 inch display which they call a “Reality Display”. Sony Bravia Engine is also said to power the phones multimedia capabilities being able to bring sharper and crisper images. Another selling point is its 8.1 megapixel camera that utilizes Sony’s Exmor CMOS sensor to bring superb quality in taking photos. The Xperia Arc is one of few phones to first integrate Android 2.3, “Gingerbread”, giving the company an advantage for those people wanting to upgrade to the latest Android OS.

WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and other basic features are of course included making the phone very competitive against the others. The phone is powered by 1Ghz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor and Adreno 205 graphics similar to the company’s other flagship phone, the Xperia Play.

The phone is already available at stores so if you want to grab one now, go check out the Xperia Arc here.
