Any portable computer that could a survive day in a kindergarten play pen is worth a look. At a hand of a child, any gadget could receive a year’s worth of abuse in just a few play hours but not the new PeeWee Power 2.0 laptop. This kiddie version of a military grade laptop features an ultra-portable, easy to carry and child friendly design that’s specially made to survive harsh playground conditions. It features a tough and fall-proof construction (and yes, quite foolproof for up to 50 cm drop), robust hard plastic shell and a spill-resistant keyboard that allows it to take punishment like there’s no recess.
Don’t be fooled by its appearance, underneath that simple toy-like exterior with its built-in carry handle that could not help but remind you of your lunch box, lays a fully functional entry-level computer. The PeeWee Power 2.0 laptop runs on a fully mature Windows XP operating system with Microsoft Works 9.0. It’s powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor augmented by an Intel 945GSE chipset and a gigabyte of DDR2 SO-DIMM RAM. For storage, it uses a 1.8-inch 30 GB PATA HDD, drive capacity can be increased thru a memory slot and USB expansions. It also uses a variety of expansion ports that with any luck won’t get plugged by Play-Doh overtime. For display, PeeWee uses an 8.9-inch LED backlit LCD screen with a hopefully slob-proof built-in camera.
Being the next generation geek hi-tech plaything, PeeWee comes pre-installed with a suite of children’s software including 15 educational games, ArtRage 2 painting tool, and BReader and Foxit e-book and pdf readers.
