Palm OS Is Laid To Rest

palm

We gather here today to pay respects to the first handheld operating system to win the hearts of the mobile market. Palm has just announced that the Palm OS is now in its final resting place. Palm’ s CEO Ed Colligan stated earlier this week that the mobile device company will be focusing their efforts manufacturing devices powered by webOS and Windows Mobile. Palm fans first saw this trend in the Treo 750 back in 2007, sporting the latest Windows Mobile OS.  Now Palm is making this a reality amongst all their future devices.

So it’s time to bid your final farewell to your well-loved Palm apps. I personally will miss the Porta-Monkey from the Palm III era, and will continue to practice the Grafitti handwriting in case the Palm OS ever comes back from the grave.

But a door does not close without another one opening. And for Palm users and excited Pre pre-owners, you will find an app store that’s open to different providers. Download-install goodness to come with the Pre!
