Mobile Music Touch: Play Piano On The Go

tactile-glove

This is not Freddy Krueger’s latest accessory. It’s actually a special, tactile glove that aids both in physical therapy and music education. Developed by the Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology, this veers away from the repetitive, monotonous movements involved in hand rehabilitation. So, you won’t get your hands on this nifty device unless you’re injured.

In any case, apparently it also works as a piano teacher. So you can practice your instrument on the go. It IS much easier to carry around these gloves in your pocket, rather than lug around a keyboard. This Mobile Music Touch System is a wireless tactile glove that has vibrating motors attached to each finger. You can connect this to a wireless device such as your laptop or smartphone. Upon playing music, the fingers vibrate indicating which keys are played on a piano. This engages the user to start running his fingers along invisible piano keys. Studies even showed that students who received this vibration-induced stimuli were able to learn songs and pieces more quickly.

I wonder if Weinstein will be making this available to concert pianists.
