iKey’s AK-39 – A Wearable Keyboard That’s Built to Military Specifications

You might ask – what makes this keyboard special from the rest of the keyboard available today? Isn’t it obvious? It’s a wearable keyboard! It is a keyboard to be worn on the arm, aiming to provide a simple, compact data-input solution that does not restrict the user’s arm movements. It is designed to meet MIL-461 standards and intended for use in very harsh electromagnetic interference (EMI) environments.

The AK-39 comes in small footprint, has the basic 39-key layout and features essential components for military and public safety applications, including an integrated Force Sensing Resistor (FSR) pointing device with left and right button functionality, as well as adjustable green LED backlight that is also offered in a night vision (NVIS) compatible configuration.

Aside from that, this wearable keyboard also comes with USB configurations, serving as the only connection to a computer. And because it is designed with gloved users in mind, the AK-39’s snap-on faceplate eliminates accidental key strokes and can be easily removed to clean the pad. No information if it supports Bluetooth or other wireless connections to devices. Also, no word on pricing yet or any indication that iKey will actually sell these to the general public.

For the meantime, you can settle for iKey keyboards offered here.
