Get More Out of Less with Samsung 640GB Spinpoint M7 Hard Drive

samsung 640gbDense is less and less is more. This maybe confusing but for one of the digital electronics and information technology giants, Samsung, it is what it is. Still confused? Then take a look at the new Samsung 640GB 2.5-inch Spinpoint M7 internal hard disk drive. This new gadget is the now reigning top-density drive to the well known M7 series. This latest Samsung high density drive innovation is designed to meet the need for better and faster performance in top of the line portable PC’s while ensuring greater shock resistance, stability and ability.

For each of the 320GB platter of the new 640GB HDD, it possesses an area density of 516 Gigabit per square inch. It is a considerable 28 percent increase in area density as compared to its Samsung 500GB high density drive predecessor. The higher density increased the maximum drive capacity without the need for extra platters. Samsung increasing the drive capacity with fewer platters resulted in decreased power consumption and better stability. Also, Samsung’s unique system-on-chip controller further reduces the power use during seek and idle times to the lowest level of consumption possible.

Here are some of the drive specifications of the new Spinpoint M7 model:

• 160 , 250, 320, 500 and 640GB capacities
• shock resistance of 400G (2ms) – operation mode and 900G (1ms) – power off
• 5400 RPM
• 3.0Gbps SATA Interface
• 8MB cache memory
• Native Command Queuing
