Intelligent side mirrors
Showcased by Toshiba at the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2008, it is a monitor that displays the same image that you would see in the side mirrors but with more information. It displays either green, yellow or red light to indicate safety level for a change lane maneuver.
It utilizes the “Visconti”, which gives it the capability to process images to calculate the distance between the car and cars behind on the adjacent lane. Instead of side mirrors, the image is displayed on a LCD monitor in the car. Being part of the Intelligent Night Vision System, it could dramatically improve safety during night driving.
