Dream Imagery – Extract images from our dreams and view them on your computer.

Japan’s ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories have developed dream imagery technology. Researchers have been able to extract, reconstruct, and view dream images through brain analysis. This technology is real; they have viewed brain images that were ingrained into a patient for experimental use right on a computer screen. They claim that this is only the first step, soon this technology will be available to use at home where you can view your spouse, children, friends, or just your own dreams on your home computer.

Scientists found this technology possible by analyzing changes in the cerebral blood flow with a MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. Test subjects were shown black-and-white images, 10 x 10 pixels, for 12 seconds each. The changes that occurred were monitored with a MRI machine and then the data was used to associate the various changes with the different images, thus producing image designs. Once the image design was produced the test subjects were shown a simple word with large black and white letters, the system correctly displayed what they had been shown and the word appeared on the computer screen.

This technology is a breakthrough in brain analysis, not all applications are known yet but currently Dr. Kang Cheng, a researcher from the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, perceives this as a way to begin the quest into seeing people’s thoughts. Currently Dr. Cheng suggests this technology could be helpful to artists and artistic people, sometimes they have images “locked” in their minds that they can’t seem to reproduce, maybe now they can use this technology to turn them into masterpieces.
